I was engaged recently with a caucasian conservative about affirmative action, and of course her opinion is that this federal program is not now, nor was ever, necessary. I’ll just bet you would have paid money to buy a ticket to witness the conversation after she voiced that opinion.
Affirmative Action refers to policies that take factors including “race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation or national origin” into consideration in order to benefit an underrepresented group, usually as a means to counter the effects of a history of discrimination. This policy attempts to “level the playing field” it focuses on such policies ranges from employment and education to public contracting and health programs.
I have listened to many a Caucasian say that affirmative action is wrong, and unfair, and very unnecessary, that it gives an advantage to “those people”…
